3 Ways to Make a Difference on MLK Day of Service

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?'" Monday, January 19th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and, each year, citizens across the country use the day to volunteer and serve others. The MLK Day of Service isn’t just a day “off” - rather it’s a day “on.” How can you use the day to inspire and impact others? Here are three ways you can act, motivate and make a difference while taking part in the MLK Day of Service.

1. Volunteer: Whether you volunteer for the whole day or just an hour, you can still make a difference on MLK Day. The eBay Giving Works team recently volunteered at Unity Care in San Jose, sorting through donated clothes and toys in order to help foster kids and families in need. Use the activity as a team building or bonding activity for your friends, family or co-workers.

2. Pay It Forward: If you don’t have the time to volunteer, pay it forward by taking one positive action to help someone else. Help with the groceries for someone at the store. Hold the door open for someone who needs help. Pay for the coffee of the person in line behind you. There are countless opportunities to do something small, which will turn into something big!

3. Support a Meaningful Cause: MLK Day of Service is a great opportunity to find a cause you support, and you can get started here on eBay. Go to www.ebay.com/mfc to find your favorite cause, and save them as your favorite nonprofit. Next time you buy or sell on eBay, you will have the option to donate as little as $1.
