Through the power and joy of sports, Special Olympics transforms lives. Since 1968, Special Olympics has been offering year-round sports training and competitions in Olympic-style sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities, like Macy.
Macy is a young athlete who was born with Down Syndrome. With Special Olympics, Macy’s family found the support they needed and her participation gives her parents confidence in their daughter’s future. Macy’s father, Joe, reflects on her first Special Olympics race:
“As little as she is, Macy's an enthusiastic runner in the Youth Athletes program and ran her first race during the Special Olympics Nebraska Summer Games. She started right at the sound of the gun. I was proud to see her feed off of the cheering crowd! She was so into it, she stopped and approached the finish line -- four times. It was so rewarding to see her out there, happy and excited.”

More than 4.4 million Special Olympics athletes like Macy train and compete around the world. But for every Special Olympics athlete, there are many more they have not yet reached.
