Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) is dedicated to the idea that every child deserves the best medical treatment available. To achieve this mission, SACH provides life-saving cardiac surgery for children from developing countries and trains doctors to improve the quality of pediatric care.
As part of our Cause + Effect program, eBay Giving Works partnered with Save a Child’s Heart to raise more than $30,000 in one week from the eBay community and save the lives of three children. Here are their stories:
Rutamila is a seven-year-old boy from Tanzania. On May 28, 2014, he underwent surgery for repair of his rheumatic heart disease. The nearest hospital was very far away from his home – a small house with an iron roof and three rooms shared with his parents and two younger sisters. Rutamila dreams of being a teacher and thanks to his surgery, he is one step closer to reaching that goal.
Raima is a beautiful, elegant fourteen-year-old girl from Ethiopia who underwent surgery for the repair of her rheumatic heart disease on May 27, 2014. Raima has two older sisters and one younger brother. Raima loves to draw and her favorite color is red. Now that she has recovered from surgery, Raima is excited to go back to Ethiopia and spend her time learning and running around with her new found energy! When Raima gets older, she wants to become a doctor and help other people like herself.
Ezekiel is a six-year-old boy from Mwanza, Tanzania who had surgery on May 12, 2014 to repair his congenital heart disease. Ezekiel spent most of his young life in and out of hospitals but says the hospital helps him and he likes it there. Ezekiel also enjoys playing football, but could not do it too much because he got tired easily. After his surgery, Ezekiel was finally able to play football without getting tired.
